Outdoor LED Deck Lighting is a long lasting, easy to install, cost effective deck and fence lighting option. In the past deck lights were illuminated by incandescent bulbs, the power source was typically a low voltage transformer with a simple timer, the brightness of the bulb was controlled by changing the wattage of the light bulb. It was not uncommon to consume 300 plus watts on a single deck. With today's light emitting diodes (LED) you can illuminate a deck or landscape project with fixtures and power supplies that are long lasting, and far more durable. First generation LED lights were all shades of blue, today's LED deck lights are available in a range of colors that will be sure to please you, and the typical lifespan is 50-75K hours. Tip: Light Emitting Diodes need a DC current to power them. While using your old AC style transformer may illuminate the fixture, it will cause LED's to burn out prematurely. There are some exceptions to this rule, for example if the manufacturer installs a rectifier in the fixture itself the current will be converted at that point.
