California Proposition 65

The State of California passed the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, or Proposition 65, requiring companies that do business in California to provide warnings for toxic chemicals present in products sold to California residents. Exposure to these chemicals can cause cancer or reproductive toxicity. Wood Dust is listed on California's Proposition 65 Chemical List as it can cause cancer. Prolonged exposure to wood dust can cause cancers of the nose, throat, or sinuses. In compliance with California's requirements The Deck Store is notifying residents that certain products, particularly Composite Deck Boards, Composite Deck Railing, Wood Balusters, Wood Newel Posts, Wood Post Caps, Wood Post Skirts, and Wood Finials, sold on The Deck Store website may contain or generate wood dust. Sawing, cutting, drilling, etc. of deck boards and composite deck railing can create wood dust. These items may be delivered with residual wood dust as well. Always minimize your exposure to wood dust when working with decking or railing. Wear a dust mask, do not use brooms, blowers, fans, or compressed air to move wood dust. Use a vacuum with a HEPA filter or wet rags to clean wood dust. Always wash hands before preparing or eating food. Change out of clothes before entering your home, car, or other places. For more information visit the California Proposition 65 website.
